When I was growing up in Ohio, my father loved to talk about his first car—a 1914 Stellite. He grew up in Glasgow, and he and his father-in-law would drive the car on Sundays. There were blue laws in Scotland, and the pubs would be closed on Sundays. If you were a registered guest at a hotel, the hotel was considered your residence and you could have a couple shots of whiskey.
