Up for sale is my 1962 Volkswagen project car. I bought the car in 1989 from a couple who flat towed it from Arizona. Once they got to New York they had a falling out, and sold the car to me. I drove it around for a couple of years and then decided to follow my teenage dream of owning a Baja Bug. Around 1992 I started modifying the car. Other projects got in the way I the car was put into longtime storage at a Friend’s farm. About Auguest of 2006 I pulled it out of storage. The car basically sat. I am never going to finish this project so it is time to sell.
BODY:
When I bought the car in 1989 the car was basically rust free, which is very uncommon in the Northeast. The floor pan was nearly perfect. I, a 260 lb man, walked on all parts of the floorboards. Right were the battery sits my foot went through the floor. This appears to be the only bad spot on the pan. The heater channels appear to be all there. There are two parts on the body that need to be patched. The first one a 3X 3 inch patch behind the lower passengers front fender. The second is a 1-foot by 1-foot patch on the driver’s side rocker panel behind the door. There are some wavy metal and assorted dents on the car.
The car was originally a hardtop. I removed a factory large sunroof from a 1963 and had it grafted by a guy who does hot rods. It was a very good job in 1992. It could use some filler work now. The Sunroof slides perfectly. It does need canvas now.
The 7-piece Baja kit is all there. It does need some work before paint. I do not have headlight buckets, lights, horn and rear bumper. I do have the front bumper.
INTERIOR:
I completely removed everything from the interior. I do have the front seat frames and one of the rear cushions. I have a good used set of white seat covers.
ENGINE:
I have a 1600 cc long block which needs a oil pump. I removed this engine from my 1968 Karmann Ghia which died a horrible death with a guard rail. I have most of the parts to get this running, except the oil pump. I have a new chrome kit ($70), chrome air cleaner ($25) new wires and plugs. The long block has an 009 distributor which needs a cap, rotor and points. I also have a lightweight flywheel, a stock flywheel, and a disc and pressure plate.
Also have a good chrome Baja exhaust, with a bit of rust on it.
TRANSMISSION:
Stock 1962 Transmission which has been ground to acceapt a 12 volt flywheel. (200 mm) Needs axle boots. Good starter Sway away urethane mounts.
FRONT END:
I removed the from beam and painted it. I did noticed the king/link pins had play and they should be addressed. Needs shocks all around.
TIRES/WHEELS.
2 stock rims with 7:00X15 Tires 2 15X10 rusty white spoke rims with old MT knobby type tires.
4 VW to ford adapters (205 mm X 5 to 4 ½ X 5) I have 4 BFG All Terrain tires if you want them.
BRAKES:
Needs master cylinder/wheels cylinders/shoes/kits/hoses. I do have a new set of hard lines. I have at least one extra front drum.
MISC:
Although it is not pictured, I do have the gas tank.
The Windshield has a crack in it. I have a good spare.
I do not have the registration slip. The last person who it was registered to was me in 1990.
I have a tow bar, which I could sell to the buyer for an extra cost.
DELIVERY:
I could deliver this up to 200 miles away for $ 2 per loaded mile. Gas is not cheap.
You can call my Cell at 917-355-3693.
